AC/DC (which stands for Alternating Current/Direct Current) is an Australian rock band formed in Sydney in December, 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young. Although the band is commonly classified as hard rock and considered pioneers of hard rock and heavy metal music, they have always classified their music as "rock and roll". AC/DC underwent several line-up changes (also known to fans as "era's") throughout their history, including the Bon Scott era (1974-80)? and Brian Johnson era (1980-present)?. The early lineups changed often, but the 1974 enlistment of the very charming singer Ronald 'Bon' Scott as their front man signified the beginning of real success. In 1979, the band recorded their highly successful album Highway to Hell. Lead singer and co-songwriter Bon Scott died on 19 February 1980, after a night of heavy alcohol abuse. The group briefly considered disbanding, but soon ex-Geordie singer Brian Johnson was selected as Scott's replacement. Later that year, the band released their best-selling album, Back in Black.
