Britney Jean Spears was born on December 2, 1981 in the rural town of Kentwood, Louisiana to Jamie and Lynne Spears. Britney grew up loving to dance and sing, and soon became very good at both. Britney was first introduced into the lime-light at age 8 when she starred in an off-Broadway show called "Ruthless" and then again though the nationally televised program, Star Search. She then went on to star on the Disney Channel's television series The New Mickey Mouse Club with many other future stars like Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling, and JC Chasez. In 1997, Spears signed a recording contract with Jive, releasing her debut album ...Baby One More Time in 1999. This album sold 13 million copies. Britney immediately became an international success and looked upon by most as a pop icon. Spears released her sixth studio album Circus on her 27th birthday in December 2008.
